Once again we drove down to Death Valley to attempt the 2001 March Messier Marathon. Bob had flown in from South Carolina for the event. We were going to do this trip in style....staying in a suite at the Furnace Creek Inn. Susan is/was 7 months pregnant and back country camping was not her idea of a fun time.

We left the Bay Area Wednesday afternoon and headed for an overnight stop at Bakersfield. A leisurely start on Thursday had us traveling thorough Kern River Canyon, Lake Isabella, Inyokern, Ridgecrest, Trona, Ballarat and finally Death Valley.
